Case Study 1: Transverse waves forms if the particles of the medium vibrate at a right angle to the direction of wave motion energy propagation, the wave is called a transverse wave. These are propagated as crests and troughs.

Longitudinal waves form if the particles of the medium vibrate in the direction of wave motion, the wave is called longitudinal. These are propagated as compressions and rarefactions and wave is also known as pressure or compressional wave. Wave on spring or sound waves in air are examples of longitudinal waves.

Case Study 2: Waves are a common and fascinating phenomenon observed in various aspects of nature. They are the transfer of energy through a medium without a permanent displacement of the medium itself. Mechanical waves, such as sound waves and water waves, require a medium (solid, liquid, or gas) to travel. On the other hand, electromagnetic waves, like light waves, can travel through a vacuum as they do not require a medium. Waves are characterized by their amplitude, wavelength, frequency, and speed. The amplitude is the maximum displacement of particles in the medium from their equilibrium position, while the wavelength is the distance between two consecutive crests or troughs. The frequency represents the number of oscillations per second, measured in Hertz (Hz). The speed of a wave depends on the properties of the medium through which it travels and is given by the product of wavelength and frequency.
